Cameron Connection

Brindley Associates were appointed by visionary landowner Sandy Riach to provide landscape and ecological services, working as part of a DesignTeam, to gain planning approval for a Farm Diversification Project south west of St Andrews. The proposal was for a sustainable mixed use development including a visitor centre; local shop; affordable new homes; Eco-holiday homes; woodland enhancement and bio-mass fuel production.

The sensitive location of the site adjacent to Cameron Reservoir a Natura 2000, RAMSAR site and SPA required our ecologists to liaise closely with SNH in the production of an Ecological Impact Assessment to inform an Appropriate Assessment.

Following scoping and a Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment we worked closely with the architect and client to produce a landscape masterplan to mitigate the findings of our assessments; integrate public access adjacent to a sensitive SPA; create a hierarchy of sustainable landscapes and to maximise the biodiversity opportunities.

The Cameron Connection proposal was approved at a local public hearing and the client is currently seeking funding to progress the project.
