Leith Walk / Halmyre Street

Brindleys were appointed by Manson Architects and Planning to prepare a comprehensive public realm design package for the redevelopment of a former industrial site in Leith.

We developed detailed landscape designs for the redevelopment of the site, incorporated new residential apartments, commercial space and pedestrian links through to Leith Walk.

We also produced a Townscape and Visual Impact Assessment for the proposals, including accompanying baseline graphics and Landscape Institute compliant photomontages.

Leith Walk Landscape Masterplan (02.02.2022)

We acted for the original promoter of the site ‘Hallhill Developments’ to prepare LVIA, strategic masterplanning and design guides to secure the allocation of the site. Subsequently we have worked with numerous developers to provide detailed landscape assessments, visualisations, open space strategies and detailed landscape designs as individual development phases have been brought forward.

Most recently, we have worked with Taylor Wimpey to provide landscape design and visualisation services in support of detailed planning applications for emerging phases of the wider masterplan.

Our work for the most recent phase included detailed planting design in addition to a suite of CGI images to illustrate the proposals. The proposed development includes a large open space with a natural play area and nature trail, which formed part of the visualisation package.

We were also delighted to hear that this project has been shortlisted for the Excellence in Visualisation and Digital Practice award, as part of the 2022 Landscape Institute awards.

Hens Nest Road

We worked with the developer on the promotion of the site in response to a previous refusal. Working with reference to the original reasons for refusal we undertook visual impact assessment, master planning and design iteration to develop a defendable layout and landscape strategy. We defended the revised layout at a local hearing and were delighted when it was subsequently consented.

Summerston

We worked as part of a wider design team to promote land at the northern edge of Summerson for the development of a residential settlement with supporting infrastructure and public parkland spaces.

Brindley provided input into the strategic masterplan, developing a robust landscape-lead approach. We also provided a wide range of services as part of the EIA, including Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, visualisations and ecological surveys.

Prior to the submission of the EIA, Brindley have been involved in the project for a number of years, providing initial surveys and assessments to inform an emerging masterplan. We also provided input into feasibility assessments regarding a potential new link road to the site.

Summerston Landscape Development Framework

Aldi, Necessity Brae

Brindley provided a suite of CGI and photomontage imagery to support the design development of a proposed new retail store in Perth. The setting of a nearby listed building needed to be carefully considered, therefore the visualisations were used to inform both the proposed landscape design and proposed building materials.

Initial photomontages demonstrated how the development would impact views from the listed building, taking the removal of existing trees into account. We then worked closely with the project architects, landscape architects and heritage consultants to optimise the proposals.

Drumore Battery Storage

Brindley provided a Landscape and Visual Appraisal, including a suite of Highland Council compliant photomontages. The proposed development included a Battery Energy Storage development on to the north-east of Dingwall in the Highlands.

Visualisations were produced at both Year 1 and Year 10 to illustrate the effect of proposed mitigation planting over time.

T in the Park, Strathallan

We provided ecological assessment and mitigation services, in addition to GIS solutions, in support of the successful relocation of ‘T in the Park’, Scotland’s greatest outdoor music festival, to its new home at Strathallan.

The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA)

Brindley are proud to have provided a comprehensive suite of ecological, landscape masterplanning and detailed landscape design services as part of an extensive design team supporting Henry Boot Developments Ltd as they deliver this £333m strategic project for Aberdeenshire in a challenging location adjacent to Aberdeen airport.

A comprehensive scheme of hard and soft landscape works including the creation of extensive new areas of public realm and civic space associated with the TECA buildings was developed from findings from the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which we co-ordinated and managed. We also engaged in extensive consultee liaison to ensure that the developing scheme was capable of achieving, initially Planning Permission in Principle and subsequently detailed consent, both of which have now been secured.

The building complex is framed by high-quality granite paving and bespoke seating elements over a raised central plaza. Over 29,000 new trees have been planted as part of the scheme, including the creation of an extensive burn parkland.

Aberdeen Football Club

We provided a comprehensive scope of work including LVIA, EcIA, protected species surveying, evidence based landscape masterplanning, stakeholder engagement, photorealistic visualisations, access strategy and detailed landscape design to support the proposed relocation of Aberdeen Football Club, including stadium, training facilities and sports academy to a greenfield location adjacent to the AWPR.

The site was prominent, in a green belt location and overlooked in part by adjacent settlement. We were required to demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the council officers, that a meaningful ecological enhancement, landscape mitigation and access strategy was deliverable to minimise potential effects associated with the development proposals.

The site has been granted planning permission and we are working with our clients to purify planning conditions and deliver a construction package and eCOW services.
